We have been committed to expanding our services into new areas since the wireless network began in 2006. The network was created, and continues, because we wish to provide services to the rural, agricultural community of our roots. We now provide service to the North-East portion of Grey County. There are still a number of areas within, or adjacent to, existing Bruce Street Technologies Limited serving areas with poor or no access to affordable high speed Internet access. We continually receive inquiries as to when we will be expanding services to these areas. We believe that this occurs, in part, because we offer a desirable product and pricing model. Expanding our network and opening new service areas can be a complicated process. We have to establish that there is sufficient need or rationale for us to move into an area. We have to secure access point and link locations that can communicate with the Internet gateway facilities. Finally, before adding any customers to a new access point, we normally leave it operational for at least one month to test for any operational abnormalities. Further Expansion Considerations Affordability for the client has always been our goal. For our standard service offering, we purchase and maintain ownership of all of the wireless equipment including the customer premise demarcation radio in order to lower the cost to the end customer. The customer pays for an installation and initial computer configuration and their monthly internet access fees. Due to recent and on-going CRTC rulings and decisions concerning net neutrality and network management, we have recently modified our pricing structure to be compliant with the applicable legislation and consistent with the industry as a whole. Our operations are fully self-funded. Combined with our desire to ensure the lowest possible costs to the customer, this limits and slows our ability to expand the network. Our smaller size also impairs our ability to receive any of the current government funding for building high speed networks. So, we are a smaller company successfully providing affordable services, but can’t get funding to expand or improve those services where a much larger company can. This creates an interesting environment whereby our tax dollars are used to subsidize a larger company so they can compete against us. This disincentive means that we are now less likely to build out a network based on speculation. Please continue to send in your requests for service or requests for us to expand into your area. It is these requests that form the basis for determining our expansion priorities. |
